The native New Zealand Kiwi has been decimated since the arrival of humans and animals, especially European predators like the Cat, Dog, Rat etc.
There are estimated to be 68,000 living today, where 100 years ago there were millions.
These ancient, flightless and nocturnal animals are a wonder to conservationists the world over, and a national treasure to the people of New Zealand (who are also nicknamed Kiwis).
